Freedom of Speech at Stake - Satinder Dhillon Files Historic Application With The Supreme Court of Canada Asking for the Right to Use the Truth in Court

The blogs were written by British Columbia based social activist, freedom of speech advocate, blogger, and international businessman, Satinder Singh Dhillon, 43, who has been fighting for his right to speak the truth about the conduct of KPMG and others in a long running matter that has been going through the courts in interrelated lawsuits for over 20 years.

Dhillon has been out on bail for over 11 years now and has had 17 bail hearings in this bizarre and long running case, which is the first of its kind in Canadian history.
Dhillon was arrested in 2009. During that arrest police officers compared him to Malcolm X and Gandhi and Dhillon was told that KPMG had a target on his back to which Dhillon replied, “next they will put a bullet in my head, because there’s $800 million dollars involved”.

The interrogation of Dhillon in 2009 (that took place the day after Canada day - July 2nd, 2009) also revealed that according to one of the two RCMP officers that interrogated Dhillon, KPMG is on a mission to “silence” anyone who speaks about this case, and that KPMG has a “serious amount of resources”. The officer also states to Dhillon that “it’s quite obvious they’re after you”.

Dhillon's lawyer Nicolas Rouleau, who is a highly regarded constitutional law expert, stated in his submissions on June 25th, 2021, to the British Columbia Court of Appeal via Zoom that Dhillon had already served one week in jail after writing truthful blogs and that was enough and at the time he wrote the blogs that Dhillon was not aware that he would not be allowed to use the truth to defend himself in criminal contempt proceedings which were instituted at the behest of KPMG.

In court, Rouleau stated that it served no good purpose to jail Dhillon for an additional 12 days which is what the government was asking for. When the government’s lawyer was asked by one of the three Court of Appeal judges about why Dhillon should be sent back to prison no coherent answer was presented by the government’s lawyer.

The hearing that took place on June 25th, 2021, was an appeal that Dhillon had filed of his sentence whereby Madam Justice Holmes of the Supreme Court of British Columbia ruled that Dhillon could not use the truth in court and that he could not write about KPMG and others and anything they did that was wrong. Dhillon appealed that decision and during his conviction appeal he did win the right to criticize judges, but not KPMG.

In 2015, after his trial ended - Dhillon filed 2 separate appeals from the lower court decision by Madam Justice Holmes who is now the associate Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

The first appeal that was heard was for the conviction itself and Dhillon’s right to use the truth - the Court of Appeal also denied Dhillon the right to be allowed to use the truth to defend himself.

The above mentioned proceedings began when KPMG complained to the police that truthful blogs that Dhillon wrote should be punishable by jail time. KPMG was able to get the police to arrest Dhillon at their request in 2009 and convince the courts to charge him with contempt of court using an 800 year old law that is still used in Canada in contempt of court cases. This law is the last law left under Common Law in Canada and technically still punishable by death even though Canada abolished the death penalty in 1976, which was the year before Dhillon was born.

In a previous statement, when Dhillon had applied to be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada, Dhillon’s lawyer - Rouleau- said the following about the national importance of the case, "This case is critical because a Canadian citizen was imprisoned for criminal contempt of court, simply because he spoke the truth. We want to live in a society where we are allowed to speak the truth, even when the truth is uncomfortable”.

Along his journey the world’s most powerful blog (The Huffington Post) gave Dhillon his own blog:

Currently, there is a movie being written about Dhillon's life, largely based on the historic case he has fought in Canada for many years.

During this insane process that Dhillon has been subjected to - he has gone on to found the Justice and Equality Party of Canada and said he plans to run a full slate of candidates in the next election if he has enough time to prepare depending on when an election is called.

“What I’ve learned through this process is that the system itself is broken and that is where we need to focus our energy next. Fighting one case at a time does not make sense anymore and a wholesale change is what is needed of this law itself. The mindset of many within the system is the problem. It’s just become a game in many ways and justice itself is being subverted in far too many cases and the process is essentially being abused by those that have the power currently. I mean to not be allowed to use the truth to defend myself in a court of law is absurd” stated Dhillon from his residence in British Columbia where is in mandatory quarantine after coming back from the United States.

Dhillon has hired agents based in Hollywood who are working with American attorneys that are negotiating a potential deal with Amazon Studios and/or Netflix that will tell the life story of Dhillon in its entirety and a TV series based on his life is also being discussed.

“It was a unique set of personal circumstances that took me to California in April of this year and I ended up staying a lot longer than expected and the full story will be told very soon”.

“I’ve kept quiet about a lot of things for a long time now while rebuilding my life after it was decimated by the system. By the grace of God I’ve been able to assemble a global team of lawyers, entrepreneurs and do-gooders that have formed a movement now that is much bigger than just this one case. It is a movement that will long outlast me and that is what I wanted, so that the change I would like to see take place doesn’t die with me whenever God chooses to take me from this world”.

“I’ve only come to the forefront and fought this case after having been behind the scenes for almost a decade prior to my arrest in 2009. I only came forward when there was no other option left. My nature and upbringing is not one that warranted any major notoriety but with what happened to me and others - I felt compelled to stand up for them and myself and do what I did because of the injustice of it all.
